without comments

We all reach that point when we are ready to lose the weight NOW! This article helps you get the weight off quickly by sharing 3 super quick weight loss tips. These tips will jump start your diet and get you moving in the most effective way.

1. Exercise smart for maximum results. All exercise is not created equal when your goal is quick weight loss. To get the fastest results add peaks of high intensity to your aerobic workout session. Warm up for 5 minutes at a slow pace then take a few minutes to amp up until you are working a maximum effort and then spend a few minutes at a moderate pace before charging up again.

2. Get your diet off to a fast start. One of the best quick weight loss tips that will have you seeing results within days is to jump start your diet by shifting your carbohydrate intake. Simply finish eating your carbohydrate foods by lunchtime and switch to proteins and veggies in the afternoon and evening.

The benefits will be a quick release of water weight and also you will make your body more efficient at burning body fat for energy since it will not have carbohydrates to burn.

3. Keep your calories low but learn how to “cheat”. The last thing you expect to work for weight loss is cheating but it is what you need to keep your fat burning metabolism running strong. The problem with keeping your calories low for a long time is that your body reads this as starvation and puts the brakes on your metabolism.

You can outsmart your body by adding one high calorie “cheat meal” to your low calorie week. This convinces the body that there is food available and it jumps your metabolism back into gear. Your body will hold a bit of water from your meal but your higher metabolism will easily wash this away.

Use these 3 super quick weight loss tips to get the results you want fast.

Getting A Six Pack Of Abs By Spring

without comments

The concept of developing and maintaining a six pack of abdominal muscles can prove elusive to some. Look at it this way: if it was easy to develop a six pack of abdominal muscles, pretty much everyone would have them. It is fairly obvious that this is not the case and the reason is most people are unaware of the process of developing their abdominal muscles. Here is some interesting news people will enjoy hearing: it is nowhere near as tough as some assume it to be. In fact, you may be able to develop a six pack of abdominal muscles as quickly as spring.

As quick as spring, you say? Yes, it is totally possible to develop that awe inspiring abdominal region in a relatively expedient matter of time. All you need to know is the path to take in order to achieve such results. Following these steps to the proverbial letter will certainly aid in achieving your goals.

The first step involves cleaning up your diet. It has been said that abs are developed first and foremost in the kitchen. This is true because if you eat an unhealthy diet you will not be able to develop abs. Junk food is loaded with sugars, fats, and calories and they will undermine the development of the abdominal muscles.

Of course, no matter what you eat, you need to keep your calorie content down. A calorie deficit will allow you to lose all the excess fat that is covering up the muscles of the abdominal region. In between the muscles and the skin is where fat is stored. When you get rid of the fat through reducing your calorie intake the muscle will become more visible. The first process of eliminating excess fat entails the ability to watch your diet. The other phase entails exercise.

Exercise comes in the form of cardio work that will burn up calories. Most people look at this from the perspective of high intensity cardio and aerobics work. Honestly, the higher the intensity levels you exercise at, the more fat you will shred. However, you can still burn a reasonable amount of calories with longer, low intensity workouts. These lower intensity workouts will certainly prove more helpful to those that may not be in the condition for high intensity cardio.

And, lastly, you will want to work a series of abdominal exercises. 20 minutes every other day could prove to be all that you need to deliver the end result. It is important to hit all the different angles of the abdominal muscles when working out. This means the upper, middle, and lower abs as well as the sides.

The common exercises performed would be sit ups, leg raises, crunches, twists, side bends, and any other variety you find appealing. There are a number of ab equipment devices that can be employed in the process of working out the abs. They add additional stress to the muscles which allows them to develop quicker. And that will certainly aid in developing abs by spring.

What is Psoriasis?

without comments

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that primarily affects joints and skin.  Psoriasis is non-contagious and usually manifests itself in patients between the ages of 15 to 40. However, once psoriasis appears, it is a disease that will be with the patients for the rest of their lives. Psoriasis manifests itself in the form of dry, scaly skin, unsightly rashes and some discomfort – soreness and itching. In severe cases of psoriasis, the skin can crack and even bleed. The severity of the disease varies from patient to patient – it may occur in relatively small areas of the body but can also affect large areas of skin. The causes of psoriasis are not known but it is thought that genetics and stress may have some bearing on the outbreak of the disease While many treatments that ease or retard the disease’s progress do exist, there is no known permanent cure for psoriasis.

Psoriasis Variants

Plaque Psoriasis: Over 80% of patients have plaque psoriasis which evident itself by red or silvery build-ups of skin. Primarily occurs on the elbows and knees but can also affect the scalp or the genital area.

Inverse Psoriasis: tend to appear in the armpits, in areas with folds of skin and also the groin.

Guttate Psoriasis: manifests itself in the form of small red spots covering areas of skin.

Erythrodermic Psoriasis: Cause red patches on the skin. The infected areas can be painful and result in excessive itching.

Pustular Psoriasis: Causes white blisters, usually surrounded by areas of red skin.

Psoriasis Treatment

There is no known cure for psoriasis! Treatments that do exist, aim to control the spread of the disease and reduce its severity. Treatments should be undertaken at the advice of your physician as different treatment regimes are suitable for different patients and forms of psoriasis.

Treatment regimes include:

  • Topical treatment: creams and lotions are applied to affected areas. Some of this medicines are natural, some artificial and some a combination of the two. Always consult your physician or dermatologist before using unknown substances.
  • Phototherapy: or the exposure of the affected areas to UV rays, usually in a solarium or through the use of UV projectors. These treatments must be medically supervised and approved.
  • Systemic treatments: involves the use or oral or intravenous medication – always administered by a qualified medical practitioner!
  • Climatotherapy: refers to treatments for psoriasis in an area where climatic and other factors give a therapeutic and healing benefit – such as the Dead Sea. Climatotherapy is a process that can take anywhere from a week to a month. The results of climatotherapy, especially at the Dead Sea, have been shown to be extraordinarily effective in combating the ravages of psoriasis and in retarding its reappearance.

Getting fit for 2010

without comments

We totally agree that its easier said than done. Knocking off off the inches takes more than just decision. It takes endurance, longanimity and a lot of self-discipline! If this is the year you’re going to get back into your size six jeans, then start with the following suggestions:

1. Keep a diary

People generally underrate their calorie intake by 50% to 70%. Count on your calories and you can set goals to keep down the things you eat. If you have a meal plan, you’re less believable to veer off and consume more calories.

2. Shop smart, shop intelligent

We need saccharides in our diet to be healthy. When picking out breadstuff, only choose 100% whole meal bread – that brings about 4 grams of fiber which is healthier.

3. Size does matter

Remember this – your plate should be one quarter protein, one quarter carbohydrates and the rest fresh veggies. Some people more often than not consume a lot of food than they actually need to. To slim down, you should eat five small meals per day.

4. Say no to comfort food

People may address comfort food when they’re experiencing pitiful, bored, disappointed and stressed. Coping between food and emotion is a mental hurdle, but not impossible to overcome. When you’re stressed out, apply these methods a try: go for a walk, meditate or simply indulge yourself to a spa or mani session.

5. Drink it down

We take water for our body to operate, period. Water gains your metabolism by optimizing digestion. Water is a natural appetite suppressant and it ameliorates muscle tone by hydrating your muscles constructing your workout more affective.

6. Rally your friends

Support groups are substantive when carrying out this process of thinning. They promote you and keep you on track as well as challenge you. Throw a fitness party and invite your friends over.

Weight Loss Strategy For New Mothers

without comments

For new mothers there is nothing better than looking at their little bundle of joy and just reveling in all that they represent and all that they will become, but what many new moms hate is their shape after the baby is born. So what are some effective weight loss tips for new mothers? Because your new baby will require a lot of love and attention it is hard to find time for a workout schedule, but fear not. If you implement some strategy and imagination you will be back to your pre-baby shape in no time at all.

While the days of heading off to the gym for hours at a time may be over for the time being, there are plenty of effective weight loss strategies for new mothers that are both simple and effective. Here are some of the best ways for new moms to go about losing weight:

?Walk it Off: Once your baby is old enough to be taken outside a great way to get your baby some fresh are and get yourself back into shape is by taking walks. Just load up your little one in a stroller and have at it. Once you get used to taking walks after awhile and you feel like you want more you can purchase a jogging stroller and instead of walking your baby, you can jog your baby.

?Take Advantage of Shopping: When you come home from the grocery store and your little one is sleeping you will have an opportunity to burn some extra calories in a rather quick fashion. Simply put your baby down in the crib like you normally would but instead of trying to carry in all the bags at one, only carry in two at a time. This will equate to some extra trips to and from the car and thus will help you to burn some extra calories. While not a ton, every little bit helps when it comes to weight loss.

?Walk Instead of Rock: When calming down your baby try walking around instead of sitting down in a chair. You can still effectively calm the baby while gently rocking the child, but because you are moving around you are going to be burning calories. Once again, this will not represent much, but it will add up to extra weight loss over time.

?Take Advantage of Nap Time: There is no doubt that you will be as tired as your baby when it is nap time but if you want to get back into shape you have to take advantage of quiet times whenever you get them. If your baby typically naps for a half hour, then take ten minutes for yourself and do some jumping jacks, or sit-up, or whatever. Then take the remaining time to catch up on your sleep.

The bottom line is that you simply need to use your imagination and keep moving as much as you possibly can and the weight loss you desire will come. Just be sure that while you are getting back into shape that you are still enjoying the fact that you have a baby. Before too much longer you will be burning plenty of calories just chasing your little one around the house all day. Enjoy it while you can because they really do grow up fast and you are only a new mother for a very short time.

Emotional Eating

without comments

Many of us turn to food to hide their emotions. Food is a quick answer for common emotions. Foods, especially those laden with carbs and fast food, temporarily make you feel better, but after consuming the extra calories the problems that cause the emotional eating remain.

Sometimes the strongest cravings for food happen when you’re at your weakest point emotionally. You may turn to food for comfort – consciously or unconsciously – when you’re facing a difficult problem, stress, depression, boredom, loneliness, chronic anger, anxiety, frustration, stress, problems with interpersonal relationships, and poor confidence. All of these can result in overeating and unnecessary weight gain.

Food also serves as a distraction. If you’re nervous about an upcoming event or stewing over a conflict, for instance, you may focus on eating comfort food instead of dealing with the painful condition.

The important first step is to identify and label your emotions. “Ask yourself if it is fatigue, anger, anxiety, a need for comfort, or true hunger that is triggering a desire to eat the wrong food. The next step is to build up a self-empowering skills, such as a self-assured communications, positive self talk, and a way to relax.

The foodaholic stops emotional eating by learning to stop diluting emotions with food, but instead to take them straight – squeeze the emotion for what it is and leave food out of the picture. The key word is “learn” – learn to handle emotions in a healthy way. For when you learn how to handle them you are allowing to feel the emotion. And at that moment, even though some emotions may not feel great, the emotion disappears when it is allowed to be felt. Any need to dilute the emotion with food disappears.

Instead of snuggling up with a gallon of ice-cream, learn how to explain to people the way you feel, go for a walk, exercise, get together with a friends, or forget the chores and go to a movie. Find a self- calming skill to practice, such as yoga, meditation or rhythmic breathing. If you are rage, take a deep breath; relax yourself for 5 seconds. This way helps to calm down your emotions.

Some of us know that they eat for emotional reasons and are ready for a change. Others might not even know this is a problem that they have been eating in response to mood rather than hunger for so long that they do not recognize the difference, And before you know it, you have already pile up those pounds and keep on going. But do not despair. There’s still hope for you to get back on track. One sure fire method to lose those unwanted excessive fats is through Fat Loss 4 Idiots program.

Most people fail to lose weight on various weight loss programs as many are really hard to follow. There’s one sure and easy way to lose weight today and it’s called Calorie Shifting – a program that tricks your body into making your metabolism go faster. With Calorie Shifting, you’ll burn more calories and you’ll lose weight. If you’re serious about losing weight, I strongly suggest you look into Calorie Shifting.

Calorie Shifting Programme offers you an 11-day meal plan through its Diet Generator. The 11-day meal plan mainly consists of a lower-carb, higher-protein, low-fat diet. The key here is that you’re not constricted in the amount you eat, so you shouldn’t go hungry with this diet.

The day is divided into 4 meals that should be eaten at a minimum of 2 1/2 hours apart. There is no calorie or carb counting, no limit on portion size – You “just eat short of being full”. After the 11 day meal plan there is a 3 day “cheat” – where you get to eat whatever you want. Then you are back into the 11 day plan again.

Cleaner Disinfectant – Non Toxic Basic-G

without comments

Germs are all over the place. We come in contact with them everyday. Our homes are “infected” with all sorts of germs we can’t see. A short time ago the Myth Busters put to the test whether or not your toilet seat was dirtier than other stuff we came into contact with everyday, like, phones, money, door handles and things like, the kitchen sponge. They found that the kitchen sponge had more different types of nasty germs than any other thing they tested. That’s right that thing we wash our dishes and silver wear with is loaded with all kinds of nastiness, and it’s the stuff we eat off of!

I think sometimes we go a little far sterilizing. Our body should be allowed to do its job. That doesn’t mean, that we need to put up with a crap load of harmful organisms existing in our kitchen. If it’s in the sponge then it’s all over the areas your sponges contact. Now I am not one who listens much to what our government agencies have to tell us, but in this case that just doesn’t apply. The EPA has a registration for environment friendly products, meaning if the item for consumption does no harm to the environment you can enroll with the EPA and promote it with that title. Most of them are not eligible.

I will bet if you ask mothers what they are most worried about in their home, and being a mother I can agree, they will tell you the fumes from the cleaners they use. Think about it, we’ve all been there; elbows deep in it, trying desperately not to inhale the noxious fumes wafting up from your unpleasant labor. It’s a wonder we don’t pass out. I remember that from the time I was old enough to clean.

I found this stuff called Shaklee Basic G. This product doesn’t have the risks that come with normal household cleaners, which have cause 7 million unintentional poisonings each year. More than 75% of which are children under age 6. Many cleaners include chlorine which irritates the lungs as well as sodium hydroxide, phenol, ammonia or formaldehyde. These and more may be toxic. Basic-G is a non toxic cleaner that has been tested and shown to be effective in neutralizing influenza type A viruses and a multitude of other microorganisms and the EPA has issued a statement that it believes, based on scientific information, that the currently registered influenza A virus products will be effective against the 2009 – H1N1 flu strain another influenza A virus strains on hard, non-porous surfaces. And it is safe for the environment. How cool is that? Spray your hard surfaces and even those sponges before you use them, make sure to rinse thoroughly.

Basic-G is a concentrated quaternary ammonium-based germicide and cleaner. This cleaner disinfectant deodorizes as it cleans. It does not contain ingredients such as chlorine, phenol or glutaraldehyde. Even though it was designed as a general household disinfectant, it may be utilized in a number of environments as long as its use is consistent with labeling, and in compliance with federal, state and local requirements. All claims we make regarding the effectiveness of Basic-G are for hard non-porous surfaces with a contact time of ten minutes in the single dilution ratio of 1:256 (or ½-oz. per gallon of water) in accordance with EPA requirements.

If your interested in more information on this wonderful non toxic cleaner disinfectantTo find Basic-G or visit me at my Earth Friendly Cleaning Products website.

Brief History of DICOM viewers

without comments

The term “DICOM Viewer” can be slightly confusing, as it implies that such a viewer is a proprietary machine. Actually, DICOM viewers can be any standard PC with the proper software, along with a high-end video card and sufficient processing power. However, a computer functioning as a DICOM viewer requires an exceptionally clear, high-resolution monitor.

The Origins of DICOM

The term “DICOM” itself refers to a standard imaging format, much like “.jpg,” “.png,” “.bmp” and “.tiff.” It stands for “Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine,” and is used to view and store images created with medical imaging devices such as the MRI, CT and the X-Ray.

Thirty years ago, each manufacturer of an imaging machine had a virtual “lock” on the ability to view the images made with that machine. For example, if the hospital had an MRI made by Company X and the radiology clinic across town had one made by Company Y, it was almost impossible for one institution’s equipment to view the imaging created by the other.

DICOM has been an ongoing effort  on the part of the radiology community to standardize medical images in a way that can be viewed by any authorized person using a generic type of device. It is the third version of this standard, released in 1993 and still undergoing upgrades and modifications. Today, it is almost universally accepted among both manufacturers of medical imaging equipment and health care institutions and their IT departments.

The DICOM Difference

What makes the DICOM standard different from other image file formats is that it saves information in “data sets;” in addition to the image information itself, a DICOM file contains specific patient information, thus eliminating the risk that this information will get separated from the image itself.

DICOM Viewers and e-Film Workstation

The Ohio State University Medical Center was the first civilian institutions to have what we would recognize as a DICOM Viewer. Known as a PACS, or Picture Archiving and Communication System, the device cost over $250,000 when it was put into place in the early 1990s. Nonetheless, within ten years, the system had paid for itself four times over by reducing the cost and time required to diagnose a case and eliminating the need for toxic and expensive film development chemicals. Today, an affordable PACS can be installed in any clinic at prices starting around $5000. By installing DICOM Viewer software such as eFilm Workstation™, any moderately-priced personal computer can be used to view medical images over a local area network (LAN) or the World Wide Web.
